Professional and Social Activities

During the summer program “U.S. Legal Methods: Introduction to U.S. Law,” IUSLAW not only introduces participants to U.S. Law, but we also provide an integrated American experience taking advantage of the many professional, cultural and social opportunities in Washington, D.C.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Formal and informal gatherings of students, faculty and prominent Washington lawyers, judges, politicians and other leading cultural and intellectual figures occur regularly.  Professional activities in the afternoons include, for example:

  • Networking receptions at leading D.C. law firms
  • Visit to Capitol Hill
  • Visits to Federal and State Courts
  • Lecture at the World Bank
  • Visit to the IMF

Participants are also invited to IUSLAW’s annual black-tie gala event.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Tours of Washington, D.C. and visits to nearby cultural and historical attractions (such as the Smithsonian Museums, Arlington Cemetery, Old Town Alexandria and Historic Annapolis) form part of the evening and/or weekend schedule.  A group excursion to a Washington Nationals major league baseball game is also part of the social schedule offered to participants. Optional arrangements are also available for weekend trips to

  • Thomas Jefferson’s home at Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia;
  • Historic Williamsburg, Virginia; Baltimore, Maryland;
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and
  • New York City.
